Invisalign and Dental Technology
Technology is providing every day new ways to make process faster and easier for everyone, and orthodontics are also benefiting from this amazing human progress. New technologies such as digital imaging and 3D printing are changing the way orthodontists work while making the patients experience more pleasant.
These new technologies are making its first incursion in orthodontists techniques. “Avi Reichental, President and CEO of 3D Systems, presented in Chicago the example of Invisalign. Last year, he noted, 17.2 million Invisalign braces were made. Each one of them was manufactured in a 3D printing, 24/7, lights out manufacturing facility. What is also amazing is that each of these designs are unique and distinct to adapt to people’s mouths. “
With a 3D printer at an orthodontists office, the tray creation could be performed immediately after the orthodontist logs everything into the system. This would cut down the process from a month (at least) to no longer than a week, allowing orthodontists to treat more patients and therefore generate more revenue. I believe this is just the beginning of the impact that 3D printing can make on the dental industry.
With high technology becoming more and more accessible, it will be interesting to see how these tools and methods will continue to develop in the coming years. All doctors are willing to embrace tools that will deliver more accuracy and flexibility in a faster and more comfortable way for the patient.
