Transformation Wednesday – Short Lower Jaw Correction
In our Transformation Wednesday of this week, we show you a patient that was treated with a M.A.R.A. in combination with braces to grow her lower jaw. We recommend this treatment to be done during the patient’s pubertal growth spurt, around the age of 11.
What is M.A.R.A.?
M.A.R.A. is an acronym for Mandibular Anterior Re-positioning Appliance. This appliance is used to encourage forward growth of the lower jaw. This change in position favors correction of a Class II skeletal malocclusion, or “weak” lower jaw. In many adolescents, this appliance is able to improve their profile significantly as we can see in this case.
