ASK MOSHIRI: Does My Child Need Braces?

Does My Child Need Braces?

Is not always easy t know if your child needs braces or not. Some signs or habits that you may look for are:

  • Finger or thumb sucking
  • mouth breathing
  • Early or late loss of baby teeth or even missing baby teeth
  • Jaws out of proportion, are the jaws in proportion with the rest of the face
  • Jaw noises, does your baby make jaw sounds when they open or close their mouths do their jaws pop or do their jaws shift?

These could be signs for orthodontics treatment.

When should my child see an Orthodontist?

The American Association of Orthodontist recommends that all children should be seen by orthodontists no later than the age of seven.

Dentist or Orthodontist, does it matter that much?

It does. An orthodontist has 2 or 3 years of extra specialized education beyond dental school giving them the ability to pick up on subtle problems may present in your child at an early age.
